Academic Integrity

Academic integrity has been talked about more than ever during my past few school years and very severe punishment can be expected if a paper lacks it. It is so hard to know exactly what taking some one's thoughts is these days. Even paraphrasing can be plagiarism if one is not careful. There are times when I think that punishment may be too harsh. I may see if money was involved: say if someone stole another idea and published it as their own for money. Honestly, there are times when it is an honest mistake on the writer's part. Maybe, instead of putting so much emphasis on not doing it, there should be more emphasis on preventing it.

Mia-
This is a very interesting position to hold. But you are correct about teaching how to prevent it--which is what we are doing in class right now with MLA. Still, many students are simply lazy and don't want to make sure they're citing sources, and it goes even further from there. What about people who cheat? What about lying to professors?

What do you think the consequences should be for people who lie or cheat, since you think that the ones in place are so harsh?

Mia,

I agree with you that the consequence s here at Clemson a really harsh. As a student, if you accidently committ academic dishonest you risk getting a zero for the course. That is a high price to pay for a mistake. I guess that is why we take this English class so that we can learn how not to be dishonest (accidently). When you write try to keep the same type of pronouns in your paper. For example if you use one as in one should do this or one should do that, do not change to you should or she should later. GOOD WORK FRIEND!!!

Mia,
As I read over the comment I left yesterday, I noticed mistakes I had made. Here is the comment again.
